Once again, there is magic in the air. Eclipse never rests, thanks to the amazing and innovative programming wizardry of its creator, Jeremy Thorne. As each major version nears release, we at Eclipse Webinars like to offer a preview.  It's usually a two-part webinar series, but Version 7 of Eclipse is so overflowing with new and improved features that we are presenting this preview over the course of three Wednesdays -- March 4, 11, and 18.  Teaming up on the presentations will be Keith Vincent, Michael Starkman, and the ultimate authority, Jeremy Thorne.

Part 1 is presented by Keith Vincent, who has worked closely with Jeremy to produce the new Visualizer movies that will help us use all of the cool additions and revisions in the software. There are many, and Keith will spent the first webinar covering these things:

  1. Multi-channel audio synch.
      • Create up to 8 text-synchronized sound files in real time.
      • A single mic can even be used to make more than one sound file.
      • For example, a small file to stream to a remote scopist and, simultaneously, a high-quality file for the reporter's personal use.
      • Eclipse multi-channel audio playback can also use files from digital recorders or steno machines.
      • Multiple waveforms on the Info Bar help you monitor the recording volume for the various channels.
      • During playback, Eclipse can use the Seating Chart to automatically play back from the sound file created by the microphone that was placed closest to the speaker you want to hear.
  2. Connection Magic and Shared Editing improvements.
      • A new dialog helps you find where co-editors are working, and it supports private messaging.
      • Need to remove a Bridge Mobile user from your realtime session?
      • You'll see how it's possible (although we hope it won't be necessary).
      • Do you and one or more other reporters want to take turns writing for a single Bridge Mobile Session?
      • You'll see how Eclipse 7 makes it possible.
  3. Auto-Block:  Auto-detection of standardized text for quick insertion.
    • Does your judge say the same thing over and over again?
    • As you write, Eclipse will automatically detect that you've written the first words of some boilerplate text such as jury instructions.
    • The more you write, Eclipse will narrow down the options so that you can select the right standardized text with a quick steno stroke.
    • It's so much easier than having to remember which "auto-include" strokes to use for several similar situations.
