Want to edit faster?  Get your work done more quickly?  Who doesn’t?

The goal is to get the same job done in less time.  Don’t cut any corners.  Don’t subtract from the quality of the transcript.  Just finish up sooner.  In fact, the sooner the better because producing transcript is no one’s idea of a good time.

Eclipse is loaded with features that will do exactly that: enable faster editing.  Dozens of shortcuts and timesavers are added with every upgrade.  Most are based on suggestions from our users who are, of course, always looking for faster ways to get a job done.  Many are small step-savers, relieving you of one or two keystrokes.  Others save more but they all add up!

They really do.  Faster transcript production is all about saving keystrokes and those who save the most keystrokes win, meaning they finish sooner and get to move on to something else, hopefully something more interesting or fun than editing transcript.

But how do you learn about these features and how to use them effectively? Well, you can use the help text and the manual; it is never a bad idea to help yourself as much as you can.  Or, you can attend these webinars.  In them Michael is going to walk you through dozens of shortcuts, each of which will save you strokes as you edit your jobs.  Here are just some of the timesavers he’ll cover:

REPLACE A WORD. We replace text again and again (and again!) in each transcript, yet many users have never learned how to expedite this task. Michael will show you how to replace words with minimal keystrokes.

AUTOREPLACEMENTS. Defendant names, witness names, and other words show up again and again.  Michael will show you how Eclipse can replace the wrong words automatically and how to create typing shortcuts that can save you thousands of keystrokes.

PUNCTUATION CONTROLS. It’s amazing how many veteran users don’t have a full grasp of the many punctuation controls and toggles built into Eclipse. Change terminal punctuation from any point within a sentence. Easily insert or change punctuation between words. Toggle quotes and commas. Fast and easy.

GLOBALLING SHORTCUTS. We global literally thousands of words as we edit. Now learn how to save keystrokes as you capitalize, access the definitions dictionary, insert lockspaces, insert speakers, Q’s and A’s, Google the entry, and more.

DELETE. Stop deleting one letter or word at a time! Delete text faster. Michael will show you how to save thousands of keystrokes as you perform this everyday task.

SEARCH FASTER. As you edit you have a continual need to find words, speakers, paragraph types, and more. This will be a thorough review of one of the most underutilized features in Eclipse. You’ll learn how to find anything quickly, how to broaden or narrow your searches, and how to use the new speaker search command.

CREATE MACROS. Michael will show you how to create macros that consolidate basic editing tasks into a single keystroke.  Stitch words, copy a title page, export a dictionary, perform a search, all with one single command.

SINGLE AND DOUBLE SPACING. Eclipse has incredibly easy-to-use commands to control document spacing. Michael will show you how to switch back and forth between single and double spacing easily and how to use the Paragraph button to control spacing, too.

INSERT SEARCHABLE NOTES & MARKS IN YOUR TRANSCRIPTS. Want to leave yourself notes in the transcript? The Comment feature allows you to do exactly that without inserting your notes into the middle of transcript text. You’ll also learn how to make “invisible” marks with your steno machine that you can search for easily and with a single keystroke.

These and many more topics will be covered as Michael shows you the tips and tricks you need to know in order to save time and edit like a pro.
